Form W-7

How to Apply for an ITIN with Form W-7

The Form W-7, also known as the Application for IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, is a document that individuals can use to apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). The ITIN is a unique identifier that is assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to individuals who are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN) but seek to file taxes.

Importantly, the ITIN allows immigrants who do not have an SSN to participate in all aspects of the financial system by being able to open a bank account, credit card, and investment account to invest in the stock market as well as take out a mortgage loan to buy property and even register to start a business.

That’s right, with an ITIN, immigrants are able to invest!
